It's BAACK!!! Glee

Glee is back for a second season. The season premier Hell-o caught us up with all the happenings of the Glee Club from William McKinley High School. If you missed it then bad Gleek, but here is what happened...Rachel and Finn's relationship hits a rough spot when Finn decides he wants to date other girls and Rachel finds herself dating the competition. Sue has found her way back into the Glee club and resumes her dirty deeds of destruction. Will and Emma have finally moved their relationship to the next level, as much as a germaphobe can move to the next level. This weeks episode featured songs from AC/DC, The Beatles, Lionel Richie and the Jazz Singer himself Neil Diamond. If you missed this weeks episode you can catch it right here. Make sure to catch next weeks episode featuring the songs of Madonna only on Fox Tuesdays 8:59/7:59c. Let your Gleek flag fly.

Clash of the Titans

Details and trailer are posted below.....

First off I have got to say, all of those reviews that bagged on Clash of the Titans, what is your problem? What kind of movie were you thinking this was going to be. I read several that had problems with too much action and not enough story. I didn't find this to be a problem and I rather enjoyed the action. Yeah the story seemed to just end but the tale that got us there was fun and had me glued. Obviously this remake is not for younger viewers and even those that don't like violence may find it objectionable but for those that like action this is a good movie.

This will be a first for my reviews...Clash of the Titans will niether "make" or "break" your night. Take it or leave it, just don't go in with big expectations.

Heading into the weekend

CLASH OF THE TITANS: Movie Trailer - For more amazing video clips, click here
Clash of the Titans

Starring:Liam Neeson, Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes
Directed by: Louis Leterrier

The Epic remake of the the 1981 Clash of the Titans is opening this weekend. If you are planning on seeing this one do not see it in 3-D according to the L.A. Times. Despite the scathing reviewsI still plan on seeing this one, my review will follow.

If a family flick is more your cup o' tea then.....

How To Train Your Dragon

Starring: Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, Kristen Wiig
Directed by: Dean DeBlois, Chris Sanders

In a village of vikings there isn't much to do except fight dragons. Hiccup(Baruchel) wants nothing more then to be a dragon fighter. Using his brains , due to his lack of brawn, Hiccup captures a dragon. befriending the dragon he learns how to train the dragons, transforming Hiccup from the village weakling to the village hero. But can he still earn the love of his father, the toughest viking in the village.

I took my daughters to this movie and they are still talking about it. Count this as another Dreamworks champion. Dreamworks has found the perfect formula of entertainment for adults and children alike. There were moments that my 2 year old found the need to hide her eyes but nothing that kept her up at nights.

How To Train Your Dragon will "Make" the night for the whole family.

The Academy Awards

Big congratulations to Kathryn Bigelow winner of Best Director and Best Motion Picture of the Year for, The Hurt Locker.
I normally don't have desires to watch Hollywood elites strain to pat themselves on the back, but this year I made an exception, for no better reason than to cheer against James Cameron. Now don't get me wrong, I actually really liked Avatar. If you have the ability to enjoy being preached to or are able to go numb to the preachy subtext of Avatar it’s a great movie. My cheering against him stems more from my dislike of his “I’m better then you” attitude. Get over yourself Mr. Cameron.

Lets switch it up a bit

I realized that I have been focusing way too much on horror and thriller type movies so let us take a break and review a little unknown that won an Academy Award for "Best Song" in 2006.

Once 2006

Starring: Glen Hansard, Marketa Irglova
Directed by: John Carney

Rather then use professionally trained actors Carney went with trully talented singers and song writers. Hansard, lead singer of The Frames a popular band in Ireland and Irglova a talented pianist and singer.
All of the music was written and performed by the actors, which creates a real connection to the message of the music.

Bottom line Great story, Great music, Great movie.

Once will "make" your night.

The Crazies

Starring: Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson
Directed By: Breck Eisner

Welcome to Ogden Marsh now you are going to die!

I got home after this movie, locked all of my doors, loaded my gun and sat at the door and waited. Not really but the thought did cross my mind. The Crazies is an intense action packed movie that will leave you breathless and wanting more. I wanted to walk right back in and watch it again.
I will throw this movie into the sub-genre of zombie movies but it deserves more respect then your typical zombie flick. Q. Whats scarier then a zombie? A. Zombies that can think. This movie has the many elements of a zombie movie but not nearly as much blood and guts.

Hands Down, The Crazies will "make" your night.

Shutter Island

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio
Ben Kingsley
Mark Ruffalo
Directer: Martin Scorsese

Two U.S. Marshalls are called to investigate an escaped prisoner from a mental institution, Shutter Island. Teddy Daniels(DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule(Ruffalo) begin uncovering the secrets of the island and the deeper they dig the more the island may consume them.

This psychological thriller will have you wrapped up into a web of lies, murder and secrets. The twists and turns will have you sitting on the edge of your seat while cringing at the same time. Shutter Island played on every emotion: fear, joy, sadness, and heartache. All brought together by the skillful hand of Scorsese.

If you are a fan of Hitchcock then Shutter Island is just for you.

Shutter Island will "make" your night. In fact I would say that it can make a few nights as you will enjoy talking about it for days trying to figure all of the elements of the movie out.

Zombieland (attached trailer is graphic and not intended for children)

Zombieland - Trailer
Uploaded by dreadcentral. - Classic TV and last night's shows, online.

Zombieland
out on DVD now

Starring: Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigal Breslin, Jesse Eisenberg
Directed by: Ruben Fleischer

Staying alive in a world taken over by the undead looking for their next fresh meal of guts has never been so funny. Charactors only known by the town they hail from band together to survive. With a special appearance by Bill Murray that will have you laughing out loud.

Columbus(Eisenberg)a college student trying to make his way back home, armed only with his rules to survive a zombie attack and a double barrel shotgun is picked up by Tallahassee(Harrelson), a hard ass, zombie killin, redneck. Together they set out on a journey of survival, but the zombies won't be their biggest problems.

Bringing laughter into a world of zombies isn't easy and Zombieland does not disappoint. I would not recommend this for a date night, but if you are looking for just a fun movie Zombieland would be at the top of my list. A zombie movie that rivals Shaun of the Dead.
Zombieland brings together a cast that you can't help but cheer on. Michael Rechtshaffen says it best in his review, "Bottom Line: A bloody, disgusting blast."

Zombieland will defiantly "Make" your night.

The Book of Eli

The Book of Eli
Starring:Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis
Directed by: Albert and Allen Hughes

30 years after an apocalyptic war left the earth scorched, Eli (Washington) wanders the land protecting The Book. Without laws to govern the land, small clans form and outlaws rule. Carnigie (Oldman) a well read leader of a misfit group knows the power that lies within the words of The Book, and he will stop at nothing to have it.

As far as post apocalypes movies go this one rates pretty low. There are too few action scenes to make up for the bad plot and story line. Once again we see Gary Oldman giving a stellar performance as the antagonist in the film. And I expect nothing less out of the performance of Denzel Washington. All in all I enjoyed the players, I just didn't like the game being played. I am going to have to agree with Owen Glieberman of Entertainment Weekly, "The Book of Eli" is like a movie based on a graphic novel you don't want to read."

The Book of Eli is a "Break"

Thursday, January 14, 2010

Hello

My name is Marc and I am a movie addict.  I love going to theaters or sitting down and enjoying a DVD or even TV on DVD.  For as long as I can remember I have enjoyed the Horror genre but as a father of two girls I have expanded the variety.  My goal is to review new releases, both DVD and Theater, and help you make the night rather then break it.
